However, to save money or if you are in need of an instant remedy, try looking at your home cabinets for the following substances that can cure the said nail ailment.

1. Vick’s Vaporub
Yes, the cough relief which was first formulated in the 1890s can cure fungal infections. It has oils like camphor, menthol and eucalyptus which are harsh to fungi. Use a cotton swab to apply Vick’s into the infected area. Do it two times a day.

2. Oil of Oregano
This oil has been used since the time of the Ancient Greeks to cure rashes as well as fungal and bacterial conditions. It has a component called terpenes which kills fungal membranes. Place a small amount of it on the area two times a day. It can also be mixed with other oils such as olive oil for enhanced effect.

3. Tea Tree Oil
This is made from distilled Australian tea tree leaves and is a common healing substance on its country of origin. It has also been scientifically found to fight fungal infections. Apply to the fungi zone twice a day until the new healthy nail grows to prevent recurrence.

4. Other Solutions
The best way is to prevent your fungus from coming back. This can be achieved by proper foot care and hygiene -- cutting your toenails short and free from moist, regularly changing your socks and keeping your shoes clean. Soaking your pedicure tools in warm water and alcohol before and after every use is also suggested.
